A large, Victorian era, carved coral brooch, whose subject is a cherub's head, resting between a pair of feathered wings. An ornate, celestial crown, modeled in 18k yellow gold, hovers behind the head of our resting angel. This crown's nine, tapering rays terminate in bezels that hold natural, old cut, medium blue sapphires— below these rays, a band decorated with five rose cut diamonds, set in diamond-shaped seats. The brooch assembly is made with a trombone-style closure, and a hand-fabricated knob. This is an exceptional object— the coral's ideal, rich salmon color, along with the brooch's size, condition, and wonderful subject matter make it a rare find!
The cherub carving is mid-Victorian. The crown and brooch assembly were made for the carving in the late-Victorian period.
