Victorian Star & Knot Diamond Set Pendant
in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A sweet Victorian era pendant or charm, modeled in 14k gold as a sailor's knot with an eight pointed star at its center. This endless knot is fashioned from many lengths of twisted gold wire that have been arranged to lay together in flat swaths, emulating the construction of an actual sailors knot or monkey's-fist knot. The charm's two small stars sit atop the wires, on either side of the knot— they are set with tiny, twinkling old mine cut diamonds.
This is original; it has not been converted. It might have originally served as a fob for a watch chain. We love the clever approach to creating a gold knot, here, the implied reference: “a star to sail her by,” and the subtle double image created by the swirling construction of the knot— we think it is also reminiscent of a swirling comet’s tail.
