A large, Victorian era, crescent moon brooch, modeled in 14k rose gold and silver, whose elegant, spiraling, openwork form is studded with chunky old mine cut diamonds. This crescent's spiral form is reminiscent of a twisted rope, or a unicorn's horn. The primary diamonds, here, are mounted in ribbed collets, and posted in the crescent's open spaces. Between these collets, decorating the moon's spiraling, ribbon-like forms, small groups of bead-set OMCs act as spacers. This moon has an openwork, festooned gallery that echos its spiraling shape. The beautiful, "bumpy" edge of the crescent's bowl likewise repeats this idea of scallops, festoons, spirals. This is a spectacular early crescent moon brooch! We love its contrasting textures, its glinty diamonds, shining out from the moon's dark-silver face, and its dramatic, almost-closed figure.
We have left the original patina, here, intact— if you would like the gold parts of this brooch polished, please leave a message in the notes field at checkout. If you are interested in converting this wonderful moon to a pendant, please reach out.
