A Victorian era love token pendant, made with a gold coin dated 1878. This $2.50 Liberty coin is 22k gold. One side of the coin has been altered to bear an especially beautiful black enamel monogram (FHL). The blocky, serif letters are done in three styles— the F is outlined, the L is filled in with black, and the H is decorated with diagonal lines and dots. Around this elaborate monogram the coin face is engraved, all-over, with a fine, starry, bright-cut pattern. The token's reverse side shows the profile of liberty, surrounded by 13 stars, and the date 1878. This pendant hangs from a simple circular bail and jump ring (18k). This is an exceptional love token (or token of remembrance)! The enamel is crisp and expertly done.
