Scaled Orb Charm with Cobalt Blue Enamel
in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A beautiful, early 20th century charm, modeled in rosy 14k yellow gold and decorated with glassy cobalt blue enamel. This orb-shaped charm has an all-over pattern of scales (or feathers) that are largest at its center— the pattern of scales tightens at the orb's poles. This scaled look was achieved by hand-placing small pieces of curved wire atop a central sphere, and soldering them in place; the pockets created by this process were then filled with vitreous enamel, and the whole charm was baked, cleaned and polished. This would have been a precise and labor-intensive process, and we love imagining the jeweler at work making this small object! Our scaled orb is capped with a decorative, hand-engraved bail. It hangs from a later 14k gold split ring (if you would prefer a closed gold jump ring, please leave us a note at checkout). Avain, reptile, or fish . . . wear it as a pendant on a slender chain.
