A striking pair of large, late-vintage, Elizabeth Locke earrings, modeled in 18k yellow gold, whose central elements are a pair of bright blue Venetian glass intaglios. These oval intaglios depict the greek god Apollo, as he is represented in various etchings and statues— here he is draped in a cloak, with his arm outstretched, having recently discharged an arrow from his bow. A heavy bezel surmounts these glowing, mother-of-pearl-backed intaglios, and eight cultured pearls are stationed around each bezel's outer edge, giving the impression of a ship's wheel. These earrings have the either/or omega-style backs this designer is known for— the pierced posts fold down, so the earrings can also be worn as clip-ons, for non-pierced ears. Omega and clip-style earring backs stabilize large earrings, making them very easy to wear. These are marked 18k for gold purity, and with Elizabeth Locke's maker's mark. We love the ethereal, almost ghostly, quality of these intaglios, and the earrings' big, dramatic presence!
Some interesting business about Apollo, if you like a rabbit hole.
