French Modernist Malachite Pie Chart Ring
Mid 20th Century in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A clever, mid-20th-century, modernist ring, modeled in 18k yellow gold, whose face is set with a thick, circular malachite slab. This vivid green gem is beautifully figured with vertical stripes. It is held in a pair of angular prongs, and a high-polished, pie-slice-shaped gold sheet lays atop it, as if to signify one quarter of the whole. This ring is fashioned with a squarish, stirrup-like, "Euro" shank that widens toward the base— this style of shank is comfortable and it also keeps the ring from turning, in wear. We love this unusual ring for its geometric qualities, its highly conceptual design and the possibilities it opens up for creating meaning. Perhaps it belongs on the finger of a statistics major, or perhaps it's secretly about equality not being a pie! This ring was made in France. It is marked with the eagle's head to indicate 18k gold purity.
