An especially fine Art Deco era engagement ring, modeled in platinum, whose primary gem is a .80 carat old European cut diamond (H/VS1). This lively, hand-cut diamond is mounted low, in a square seat, where it is held in place by trefoil beads. The primary seat is surrounded by trios of bead-set diamonds to the north and south, and pairs of diamonds to the east and west. Four, horizontally-oriented, French cut blue sapphires also flank the primary diamond, reading like an equals sign, or bars on a soldier’s epaulettes. This ring also features a delicate, curling, filigree gallery, and engraved folate details. It is further embellished, throughout, with sparkling milgrain edges. We love the shapely, squarish head, along with the unusual (and very elegant) placement of the sapphires. We also love the symbolic potential of the equals sign, being used to indicate equality, as it does in mathematics!
This ring is flattering in wear, crisp as the day it was made and very unique, even among period rings. Marked for purity.
