A wonderful Victorian era locket, modeled in 14k yellow gold, whose face is decorated with an elaborate tri-color scene of flowers opening beneath a shining sun. This sun, and its nodding flowers, rests inside a round panel at the locket's center. Hand-pierced from sheets of rose gold, green gold, yellow gold and silver, the clutch of flowers was applied very precisely (piece by piece) to the locket's face. The sun, and the locket's border decor, is composed of Etruscan-style wirework and granulation. A beautiful, scalloped fringe fans out below the round panel that holds our flower scene. The angular style of the locket's shoulders is echoed in its large, decorative bail. A deep, glazed locket compartment, meant to hold a portrait, or a lock of hair, is hidden beneath a trap door, on the locket's reverse side.

This is a spectacular locket, and its condition is nearly immaculate, with no wear even to the bloomed finish. Only the hinged cover on the locket's reverse is marked with a couple of very light dimples. We love the curved and angular lines working together, here, the realistic variation in the flowers' forms, and this locket's unabashed maximalism— art for art's sake!
