A wonderful, Victorian-era, two-sided locket, whose weighty, hand-fabricated, 14k yellow gold frame is decorated with a repeating, open-work coin motif. This long, oval locket frame holds a pair of shakudo panels— one depicts a pair of frogs in a charming rickshaw scene, the other an Edo-era ship (sengoku-bune) sailing under a silvery moon, with Mt Fuji in the distance. These panels are set into stepped gold bezels, and both sides of the locket open. We love the lacy quality of the coin decor, here, the adorable frogs (duh!), and the exquisite detail in this fine, multi-color shakudo work— light, movement, and shadow are all beautifully captured! This antique locket is one of a kind, and a rarity.
