Belle Époque Opal & Diamond Ring
with Trefoils & Ribbons in 18k Gold & Platinum
* * SOLD * *
RESERVED - A striking Belle Époque era ring, modeled in 18k yellow gold and platinum, whose primary gem is a beautiful, fiery, Australian opal. This opal is set in a yellow gold bezel, where it hovers inside an ornate, diamond-set, platinum-topped "frame." Sparkling diamond trefoils flank the opal to the north and south, while trios of undulating, ribbon-like forms reach out to it from the east and west. These ribbons furl into single, bezel-set diamonds at the ring's shoulders. The ring's reeded shank tapers somewhat, toward the base. This ring's solid, natural opal is transparent, with blue, green, and red coloring— its fire presents in a lively pinfire pattern. The diamonds are charming, chunky old mine cuts, with small tables, steep crowns, and open culets. This old French darling is a rarity, and its construction is exceptional! It is marked 18, for purity.
