An unusual, Art Moderne engagement ring, modeled in platinum, whose primary gem is a .62 carat transitional cut diamond (F/G, VS1). This sparkling old cut diamond is set in a modernized buttercup mount, where it is held in four, claw-like, triple prong tabs. Astride this diamond, a pair of accent diamonds rest in square plaques that decorate the ring's cathedral shoulders. A pair of smaller plaques, each decorated with a single, engraved orange blossom, flank those accent stones. This ring has a notched detail at the shoulder, and a slender, low-profile, half-round shank. We love the cool, streamlined quality of this ring, the gallery's cutaway, festoon-like design, and the way this ring speaks (both) to the world behind it, and the world ahead! Art Moderne is a small design period, like Arts and Crafts— there are not many jewels from this wonderful movement floating around today.
Transitional cut diamonds illustrate the beauty of compromise. With tables larger than their near ancestor, the old European cut, lower crown facets, smaller culets, and shorter pavilions, transitional cut diamonds bridge the gap between OECs and the round brilliant cut diamonds we most often see in contemporary jewelry.
