Vintage Nubian Woman & Supplicant Relief Ring

An unusual vintage ring, modeled in 14k yellow gold, whose long, dished, oval face features a mysterious figural relief, with a vibrant, high-carat gold wash. This relief depicts a curvaceous nude woman (right) in a short, fitted wig of Egyptian style. Kneeling before her, a slim figure that appears to have the head of a bull. Our curvy girl seems to be grasping the curved horns of this supplicant. She may be a priestess or consort (she resembles depictions of women who were God's Wife of Amun). The kneeling figure calls the god Apis to mind, because of its horns and calf-shaped head. Surrounding this curious miniature, a border of hand-pierced triangular shapes creates the impression of rays. The ring's openwork undergallery is decorated with a series of hand-pierced lotus blossoms. Its half-round shank is slender, and it tapers slightly toward the base. This ring's subject matter is clearly mystical, and its story could probably be revealed with a little work. We love it for it's beautiful textures, and for the feelings and ideas the forms suggest! This ring is finished with a high polish. The concave face has a bright-cut edge. Marked 585 for purity.
